Freewrite 4/7/08

Blogging has always been something that I was never really interested in. Giving people I don’t even know a window to my life seemed too personal to me. I like my privacy. However, in Mrs. Dunigan’s 4th period class we were required to blog, so I gave it a shot since I’m trying this whole graduating high school thing. I found that after blogging a few times it could be a great way to get things off your chest and express how you feel in general. I went from being unsure about it to actually liking it. I was excited to come to class on blog days.
Then came the fateful day when Mrs. Dunigan got me out of my second period English class because someone got upset about something on my blog. At first I was infuriated that I had to remove things off of my PERSONAL blog. It’s simple…if you’re offended by things I say then you have the choice whether or not you read them. What happened to freedom of speech? Schools need to quit trying to be dictatorships and have a go with democracy. I mean, if it’s a good enough system to run our COUNTRY with, then I think it can handle high school. As I thought about it more, my mood changed from angry to something else. It’ hard to describe, but I felt a little sad and alone. I no longer had a way to vent, I had to censor everything I wrote, blogging just wasn’t the same.
